The Diploma Supplement is a document attached to the final qualification, aimed at enhancing international “transparency” and facilitating the academic and professional recognition of qualifications (diplomas, degrees, certificates, etc.). Its purpose is to provide a description of the nature, level, context, content, and status of the studies undertaken and successfully completed by the individual named in the original qualification to which this Supplement is attached. It is based on an international model developed on the initiative of the European Commission, the Council of Europe, and UNESCO.
The Diploma Supplement, issued in two languages (Italian and English), is composed of eight sections containing information about the holder of the qualification, the institution that issued it, the level and nature of the qualification, the curriculum followed and results obtained, academic and professional rights, etc. There is also a section (section 8) dedicated to the description of the national higher education system related to the obtained qualification and the studies undertaken.
The DS is issued automatically and free of charge together with the diploma, and it ensures transparency and academic and professional recognition at the international level.
