Academy – Institution
Mission

The Academy of Fine Arts of Urbino is located in one of the iconic sites of the Italian Renaissance, a city recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its privileged geographical position almost naturally requires it to live up to a history and cultural context unique both nationally and internationally. Therefore, the mission of the Academy of Fine Arts of Urbino is to offer educational excellence and to promote research and experimentation in the artistic field that, while considering the historical context in which it operates, is oriented towards the contemporary.
Therefore, the teaching approach aims to create a dialogue between the languages of tradition and the new idioms of current disciplines. Throughout their studies, students acquire the ability to creatively manage aesthetic languages. The valuable contribution of practical workshops and theoretical courses supports the formation of an active individual capable of autonomous creation within the multiple visual languages adopted by contemporary practices.
Laboratory experiences and theoretical reflections interact and are continuously updated to offer a training model that meets the new expressive needs of today’s art system, and to provide the essential knowledge required to enter, with competence and quality, the world of new professions.
The Academy of Fine Arts of Urbino offers academic degrees equivalent to first-level and second-level university degrees and is part of the institutions within the Higher Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM) system under the Ministry of University and Research. It organizes, supervises, and manages all educational activities necessary for students to obtain their respective degrees; promotes knowledge and the study of the arts and disciplines related to communication, publishing, and new technologies; contributes to the protection and enhancement of the artistic, historical, and cultural heritage of the city of Urbino; and actively collaborates with public and private institutions in the region by fostering internships and training programs.
Particular attention is given to international exchanges and to the vibrant cultural activities developed in the area through the organization of exhibitions, debates, conferences, workshops, performances, and educational laboratories.
